– We aim to respond to all email enquiries within an hour, but there may be delays during busy periods.

Hmm, it has been a little over six hours since I sent them an email and I have yet to receive a response. Maybe they just don’t like negative criticism. Below is the email I sent them.

Hi there,

I recently purchased a jacket from your website. While it is exactly how I expected it to be and then some, I received a little surprise when the Fedex guy told me I had a $71.87 surcharge to pay. Customs Duties is what I believe it’s called. I asked why I was being charged this ridiculous amount, and he said it was most probably because your company, End Clothing, put ‘Jacket’ as a description and not ‘Gift.’

Now, I purchase pretty much everything on the internet and this is the very first time this has happened to me. This was my first and last purchase with End Clothing.

A disappointed customer,

Sean [Last name]

Like I said above, I have purchased pretty much everything I own on the internet, and this is the very first time this has happened to me. $71.87 is a lot of money for nothing.

The penny's days are numbered

The penny's days are numbered:
Citing low purchasing power and rising production costs, the government has decided to phase the penny out of existence starting this fall, when the Royal Canadian Mint will stop distributing the one-cent coin to financial institutions.

This is sad, sad news for me. What am I supposed to do with all the pennies I collected over the years?

Liquidation sale coming at the Boite Noire on Laurier

Liquidation sale coming at the Boite Noire on Laurier:
As reported in this space Wednesday, the Boite Noire store on Laurier Ave. is closing its doors for good on July 1. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the store will be holding a massive liquidation sale beginning in early April – April 3 to be exact – so if you are a cinephile, you’ll definitely want to check this out.

I’m one of them.

Before getting my first iPhone in 2009, I had never bought a piece of software. Instead, like many people, I downloaded pirated versions off the internet. I couldn’t justify paying for something when I knew I could get it for free if I simply looked around for it.

After getting an iPhone, I realised that the developers behind these apps we were using daily are regular people like you and I. Some even solely rely on the sales of these sub five dollar apps as their main source of income, so why not support them? We are using their product so it only seems natural.

There has been a lot of talk lately about developers releasing new versions of their apps as paid updates even though customers bought a previous version, and to be totally honest I’m fine with that.

I think people see a $4.99 price tag on the internet as totally different from real life $4.99. When most people see it in the App Store they’re immediately turned off and go hunting for a free or cheaper alternative. When thinking about it, you’re most probably spending more money on an above-average cup of coffee at Starbucks every other day of the week.

Think about it: five dollars is, well, only five dollars.

It’s spring time in Montréal.

It’s spring time in Montréal.

More than the heart, more than the brain, as ridiculous as this may sound, I can’t help but...

More than the heart, more than the brain, as ridiculous as this may sound, I can’t help but think of my testicles as the seat of my soul. The soul, after all, is supposed to be that part of us that’s immortal. And in a strictly biological sense, our very reason for living is to reproduce, to farm out our DNA and guarantee some fragile tether to the earth long after we’re nailed into a coffin. [SOURCE]

That is exactly how I feel about them.

I used to be okay with the idea of getting a vasectomy. You know, whenever the time would come. But after reading this article I can now say that I will never, ever let such a tragic thing happen.

We pretty much have a new promotion every other week at work. This week on the other hand, I wouldn’t go as far as calling it a promotion.

When a customer buys one or more of a select few albums, we give them a bag of chips. A BAG OF CHIPS. AT A RECORD STORE.

Nuts were said to reduce mortality rate by 20%, making a case for swapping roast beef for nut roast.

…

When deaths were broken down into specific causes, eating any kind of red meat increased the chances of dying from heart disease by 16% and from cancer by 10%. Do people think the NFL is a flag football league? No. So what’s so surprising about it all? The fact that the coaches were offering the already-over-paid-athletes more money to do their job? That’s the name of the game. Go out there, knock your opponent down, and score. Win the game and you’re going to the Super Bowl. It’s actually a great motivation tactic if you think about it…

Before I started working at my current job I never ever thought I’d try Microsoft’s...

Before I started working at my current job I never ever thought I’d try Microsoft’s search engine Bing. Why would I? Google was doing everything I needed it to, and anyway, I’m not the biggest fan of change when it comes to computer stuff.

But I guess our company’s webmaster doesn’t trust us with Google (why is totally beyond me), so we’re forced to use Bing as our search engine. And to be honest, it isn’t bad at all.

My biggest complaint with it is that I think of this guy every time I use it:

…try using Readability. You’ll feel better about yourself for giving some money to the writer of that article you ripped the ads out of instead of helping Marco pay for his self-important coffee.
