French Canadians singled out as bad tippers in Vermont
“A few times a week, we get tables that will eat for $100 and leave, like, three bucks or $5. And 100 per cent of the time for stuff like that, it’s French Canadians. Not all French Canadians do that, definitely not, but when it happens it’s always French Canadians. Basically, it’s large bills that get loose change as a tip.”
Disclaimer: I just wanted to say that I’m not writing this because it was targeted at French Canadians, but because of how tipping has become the norm.
A friend of mine, who works at a bar and grill, once told me she ran out of the restaurant after her customer because he didn’t tip her. I find it ridiculous that waiters and waitresses these days expect to get tipped.
I get that you, as a waiter, are getting paid under minimum wage, but I am in no way forced to tip you. And please don’t make me feel bad for it.

(Gazette won’t show me the article unless I pay). I’m somewhat surprised since the tipping culture is very similar in both countries. Maybe it has to do with that US servers are paid $4-5/hrs whereas in QC it’s 8.35 so less need to tip 15-20%.

Oh my gosh my husband is French Canadian and is the WORST TIPPER EVER….is this a real trend? I’m an over-tipper, we butt heads a lot about how much to tip.
